The Northern BC Truckers’ Association has received clarification from the BC Ministry of Transportation regarding the future requirements for dash cameras in commercial vehicles.
At this time, dash cameras are NOT yet mandatory.
Legislation has been passed that provides the authority to require dash cameras in commercial vehicles. However, the regulations outlining the specific requirements including which vehicles will be affected, what equipment will be required, and when the requirement will take effect have not yet been finalized or passed.
Once the regulations are approved, there will be an implementation period to give carriers time to obtain and install the appropriate equipment.
For now, no action is required.
We will continue to monitor this and provide our members with the official requirements and implementation timeline as soon as that information becomes available.
